Renato Natali (1883-1979) was born in Livorno from a modest family, where perhaps the father, hatter by profession, led him to enroll at the School of Arts and Crafts. Not too temperamentally suited to the school system began to devote himself to drawing a self-taught, and even when one of his companions urged him to attend the study of Guglielmo Micheli little and did so against his will.
His earliest known paintings date back to 1898, but the first official recognition came in 1903 with the delivery of the silver medal by the Ministry of Education, followed by his participation in the Venice Biennale.
The artist's career and life led him to travel extensively in Italy and to’ foreign, experiences that enrich the cultural baggage, during which the artist made many notes for his works, Livorno remained even if one of her favorite places, from which it departed, and from which he returned frequently.
He was a frequent visitor to the Coffee Bardi, getting involved in discussions and in the most heated moments of leisure group, members from which it was immediately recognized as a talented artist, able to translate the views of Livorno with a new language, personal and recognizable. Both for the artist devoted himself to the practice of making lithographs, engravings and etchings, that led him to participate, in 1913, The International Exhibition of Lithography, held in Brighton.
Then the artist went to Paris at the home of playwright Dario Nicodemi, where he could get in touch with the works of the great French masters and learn about some artists residing in the town of Livorno long French. In 1914 He returned to Livorno, where, greatly changed by his experiences, began to devote more consistency to the art, directing his painting of brighter colors and more vivid themes.
Around the Twenties, as well as cooperating with the weekly magazine “World”, provided numerous designs for which, participated in the formation of Group Labronico,
present their works to the first exhibition of the new group Livorno. Followed: participation in the most important Italian exhibition events, For example, in Venice, Rome and Milan and the purchase of many of his works from the Gallery of Modern Art's most important towns. During the Second World War Natali stood in Livorno, where he was greatly affected by the bombing that destroyed the birthplace, which developed into important ideas for his later works.
In the years following the conflict continued success with his exhibitions by participating in major events throughout the peninsula, opportunities to celebrate the artist's works that continued even after his death in 1979, through personal and retrospective dedicated to him.
